International Students

2+1 International Class

Merit College has collaborated with Chinese high schools to establish a unique “2+1” project. Students will study Grades 10 and 11 in a Chinese high school. We will adopt a “Chinese – Canadian” blended teaching style with Chinese and Canadian teachers jointly teaching the courses. At the end of Grade 11, students will transfer to Merit College to complete their secondary school education. Students will need to complete all diploma requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) in order to apply to North American Universities.  The ARTS Program

The ARTS Program is a special 2+2 program for arts students. It contains a package of some specialized arts courses for artistically-talented students interested in Dance, Drama, Music or Visual Arts. Students will study for 2 years in a Chinese high school and after that, they can study ARTS program for 2 more years at Merit College, while completing the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.  Green Path Program

Merit College’s Green Path Program is designed for international students who wish to apply to Canadian universities. It consists of boarding, guardianship and counselling services in a three- faceted education program. Our Green Path program helps our students successfully complete the requirements to obtain the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and apply to Canadian universities.

Target Students: Outstanding students who have completed Grade 11-12 or equivalent.

Admission Requirements:

• Academic average of 80% or more.
• English: IELTS score of 5.5 or more, or pass Merit College’s English Exam.
• Merit College’s Entrance Interview.

Students who do not qualify for the Green Path program may apply for an Intensive Course in English at Merit College. When students achieve the necessary level of fluency in English, students can reapply for Green Path Program.

 Curriculum:

• Basic English Intensive Course: 4-10 Weeks.
• University Preparation Program: 8-10 credit courses at the Ontario grade 12 level.
• Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) preparation course.

 Graduation Requirements from the Green Path Program:

• Must complete Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) required courses.
• Grade 11 and 12 English: students need to achieve 80% or more; other subjects: achieve 85% or more.
• Must pass Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.
• Complete a minimum of 40 volunteer community service hours.
• IELTS score of 6.5+ or meet university’s admission requirements.
